Story

I had written this song when one of my children was small. The school needed a fundraiser, so I went into the studio with drummer Steve DeGeorge and we walked out with this. A big thank you to Mike Ferretti, one of the fastest engineers I've ever worked with.

Lyrics

A Mother’s Song

In a couple days you'll go to school
count 2 + 2 , learn the golden rule
mix blue & green
create a scene
with all your new found friends

I wish that I could live it for you
take the pain & hurt
but that is not the plan
you must become a man
in your own time and way

You will have tomorrow
I had yesterday
You will have tomorrow...
but we both have today

Oh, skateboard child you keep busy all day
on the run, all in fun
then someone lets you down
I can see your frown
covers the clouds so grey

This laundry lady has a lot to give
you can take it or leave it
I was once a kid
lots & lots to do
in the world so new--
but know, baby, I love you

You will have tomorrow
I had yesterday
You will have tomorrow...
but we both have today

Oh, firstborn son you're a growing tree
may your heart know truth may your heart be free
on my knees I pray
in the too short day
that's what I want for you

Look inside and see the good
wonder why and know that answers come in many ways
many ways

You will have tomorrow
I had yesterday
You will have tomorrow...
but we both have today
